The department

The pioneer of Earth Science Education in the region

Established in 1975, the Department of Geology and Mining was founded to train the geoscientists who would map, explore and manage the country's mineral and groundwater resources — and it has been doing exactly that for fifty years.

Its research runs on three pillars — groundwater, natural hazards, and mineral resource development — pursued from five laboratories, a geological museum, and a landscape that is itself a field station: the Barind Tract begins at the campus edge.

A message from the Chairman

Fifty years of the department, and the people carrying it into the next fifty.

The Department of Geology and Mining at the University of Rajshahi is proud to announce its Golden Jubilee celebration, scheduled for 26–27 December 2026.

On this momentous occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Geology and Mining at the University of Rajshahi, we celebrate a legacy of academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and invaluable contributions to Bangladesh’s geosciences and mineral resource development.

As we commemorate this golden jubilee, we honor the dedication of past and present faculty, the achievements of alumni, and the promise of future geoscientists. The department remains committed to innovation, sustainability, and national development, ensuring its leadership in Earth sciences for decades to come.

I welcome you all to this grand event at the historical campus of Rajshahi University.
